Seoul – September 18, 2026 -- Hanwha Power has secured Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping for a 22,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel concept design, the company announced on September 15 at GASTECH 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The certification rounds out a full range of medium- and large-scale LNG bunkering vessels for Hanwha Power, positioning the company across multiple vessel size classes for shipowners transitioning to alternative marine fuels.
Design enables dual LNG-ammonia cargo handling for future fuel flexibility
The vessel's multi-cargo capability allows transport of both LNG and ammonia, a next-generation clean fuel candidate for shipping. The design uses high-manganese steel cargo containment technology, branded Mc-C, which Hanwha Power says permits adaptation to future alternative fuels with minimal structural modification, extending long-term flexibility for shipowners.
Hybrid electric propulsion targets emissions during coastal and berthing operations
Given the coastal operating profile typical of bunkering vessels, Hanwha Power integrated a hybrid electric propulsion system combining Onshore Power Supply with an Energy Storage System. The company states this configuration reduces harmful emissions while vessels are berthed or operating near shore, while also improving operational efficiency and economic performance.
Group technologies bundled into an integrated engineering and procurement package
Hanwha Power incorporated Group-wide core technologies into the design, including dual-fuel generator sets, Energy Storage System integration, Electrical Power System integration, an Integrated Automation System, and a Cargo Handling System. The bundling is intended to strengthen the competitiveness of Hanwha Power's integrated Engineering and Procurement offering for shipowners.
Hanwha affiliates jointly showcased marine solutions at GASTECH 2026
Hanwha Power operated a joint booth at GASTECH 2026 alongside Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Engines, presenting combined marine and energy solutions spanning eco-friendly vessel transition, propulsion systems, and marine equipment. The certificate presentation ceremony on September 15 was attended by Hanwha Power Marine Solution Business Division Head Hoon-min Kim, Vice President Jong-kyu Hwang, and representatives from ABS.
