Brooklyn, N.Y. and Spokane, Wash. – September 29, 2026 -- HEVO Inc. and Flying Pig GSE LLC have entered a strategic collaboration to bring automated wireless charging technology to electric and autonomous Ground Support Equipment (GSE) at airports.
HEVO contributes patented Rezonant wireless charging hardware to the partnership
HEVO, a New York-based Tier 1 supplier, will combine its Rezonant wireless charging hardware, power electronics, controls and Journey software platform with Flying Pig GSE's four decades of aviation operating experience and airport customer relationships. The goal is to identify applications where automated charging improves fleet utilization and supports increasingly automated airport environments.
Ground vehicles' predictable dwell times create a target use case
Ground support vehicles repeatedly return to gates, staging areas and loading zones, creating natural opportunities for wireless charging infrastructure to deliver energy without cable connections. The companies argue this could allow smaller onboard batteries depending on duty cycles, potentially cutting vehicle weight and cost while improving energy efficiency.
Autonomous GSE requires charging without human intervention, executives say
Jeremy McCool, Founder and CEO of HEVO, said a driverless vehicle still needs an automated way to replenish energy, and that integrating wireless charging with vehicle controls creates a pathway for equipment to charge with minimal human involvement. Neil Bennett, Managing Director of Flying Pig GSE, said the shift to electric GSE requires rethinking underlying infrastructure, not just swapping diesel engines for electric motors, potentially enabling manufacturers to optimize battery size around actual duty cycles rather than a full shift's worth of capacity.
Companies plan pilots and system integration across GSE market
HEVO and Flying Pig GSE intend to pursue customer engagements, application development, system integration, demonstrations and pilot opportunities across the Ground Support Equipment market, with an initial focus on measurable operational or economic benefits for airports, fleet operators and GSE manufacturers.
Partners frame effort as move from plug-in to "invisible" charging
The companies describe the long-term goal as making charging a process operators and autonomous vehicles do not need to actively manage, with equipment receiving energy automatically while already stopped during normal operations rather than being pulled from service to charge.
