HEVO Joins ORNL-BMW Program to Test Polyphase Wireless EV Charging

Brooklyn, N.Y. – September 21, 2026 -- HEVO Inc. is contributing coil engineering and technical analysis to a bench-testing program run by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and BMW to evaluate next-generation polyphase wireless vehicle charging technology.

HEVO supplies circular coil topologies for BMW's compatibility testing with ORNL's proprietary polyphase system

The New York-based Tier 1 supplier is applying its patented Rezonant wireless charging hardware expertise to help BMW assess how its circular coil designs interact with ORNL's polyphase coil architecture. HEVO holds a technology license from ORNL and is providing engineering support to the joint evaluation effort.

Polyphase coil technology targets gains in power density and packaging efficiency for EV charging

ORNL and BMW have previously demonstrated polyphase wireless charging systems publicly, citing potential improvements in power density, efficiency and physical packaging over conventional designs. Industry attention to the technology has grown as automakers and infrastructure developers look toward electric and autonomous vehicle platforms that require faster, more scalable charging without cabled connections.

HEVO CEO frames wireless charging as core infrastructure for autonomous fleet operations

"Wireless charging will be a foundational technology for the future of electric and autonomous transportation," said Jeremy McCool, Founder and CEO of HEVO. He said the company aims to bring practical experience from commercial wireless charging deployments to the evaluation, with a focus on supporting automated fleet operations and next-generation charging infrastructure.

Testing builds on prior ORNL-BMW work exploring advanced wireless charging architectures

The bench evaluation extends earlier collaborative research between ORNL and BMW into wireless power transfer architectures for future electric mobility platforms. HEVO's systems are UL certified and SAE qualified, and the company markets both stationary and dynamic wireless charging solutions for passenger vehicles, commercial fleets and autonomous mobility applications through its Journey software platform.
