Shanghai – September 21, 2026 -- Huawei unveiled its Intelligent WAN Target Architecture on September 17 at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, targeting internet service providers seeking to monetize AI-driven connectivity demand.
Huawei ties network architecture to AI monetization strategy
Speaking at a roundtable titled "Intelligent WAN, Fortifying the AI Services Connectivity Foundation for ISPs," Wayne Zhou, Vice President of Huawei's ISP Computing and Network Infrastructure BU, said asset-heavy ISPs can convert connectivity capabilities into lightweight AI services as AI commercialization accelerates. He said ISPs are shifting from selling bandwidth to delivering AI services by combining edge nodes, computing, and APIs.
Agentic AI drives three structural shifts in network traffic and design
Ado, CEO of Huawei's Wide Area Network Domain, said agentic AI is reshaping networks in three ways: connections move from humans to autonomous agents, traffic patterns shift from downlink-heavy to uplink-heavy flows, and experience assurance must extend across entire agent workflows rather than single applications.
Huawei proposes three pillars for ISP network transformation
Ado outlined a hierarchical, modular IP+Optical converged architecture designed to accelerate ISP network expansion and AI service rollout. He said ISPs should convert network capabilities into measurable, deliverable differentiated services to monetize both connectivity and AI. He also called for elevated intelligent operations through tools including a Network Digital Map, a fault-locating agent, and an AI assistant, aimed at cutting operating expenditure and improving operations efficiency.
ISPs from Indonesia, China, and Ecuador present AI service deployments
Lintasarta Indonesia, SiliconFlow China, and Telconet Ecuador presented their AI services and network deployment strategies at the roundtable, offering ISP-specific guidance on network planning for the AI era.
