Mexico City – September 20, 2026 -- The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) has awarded full accreditation to Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ), making it the first of Mexico's 13 National Institutes of Health under the Mexican Ministry of Health to reach this status.
INCMNSZ becomes only the second organization in Mexico to earn AAHRPP accreditation, joining a global roster that now exceeds 600 accredited entities. AAHRPP separately confirmed reaccreditation for five additional organizations, underscoring continued renewal activity within its existing accredited network.
AAHRPP marks 25 years with expanding global footprint
AAHRPP President and CEO Elyse I. Summers said the accreditation reaffirms the value of the credential a quarter-century after the organization's founding. She noted that research organizations increasingly seek AAHRPP's accreditation status when selecting collaborators in an increasingly cross-border research environment.
Accredited entities now span the United States, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
Accreditation requires proof of continuous safeguards for research subjects
To secure and retain accreditation, organizations must demonstrate adherence to AAHRPP standards covering safeguards across research operations and a documented commitment to continuous improvement. For institutions competing for international research partnerships, accreditation status is positioned as a differentiator in selection processes among sponsors and collaborators.
