PITTSBURGH – September 03, 2026 -- Jennmar has secured a five-year exclusive contract to supply ground support products to Outokumpu's Kemi mine, Finland's largest underground mine and the only operating chrome mine in Europe.
Jennmar creates dedicated Finnish entity to service the contract
The company has established Jennmar Finland, a new subsidiary tasked with streamlining commercial transactions for Outokumpu and the mine's leadership teams. The multi-year agreement covers roof anchors, cable anchors, mesh, steel accessories and injectable resins tailored to the underground conditions at Kemi.
Kemi mine processes 2.7 million tonnes of ore annually
The mine supplies chrome used in ferrochrome and stainless steel production at Outokumpu's nearby Tornio facility. Jennmar will apply its global supply chain and technical expertise to support safety, stability and production efficiency at what it describes as one of the most significant chromite operations in the Western world.

"I am delighted with Outokumpu's choice of Jennmar to supply the Kemi mine over the next five years," said Mike Petkovich, president of Jennmar Europe. He said the company has already built a working relationship with Kemi's commercial and technical teams and aims to deliver full-scale service through Jennmar Finland.
Outokumpu cites large-scale ground consolidation operations at Kemi
Henri Simpanen, director of the Kemi mine and vice president at Outokumpu, said the operation is conducting large-scale ground consolidation to maintain high safety standards for personnel while limiting production risks, and welcomed the partnership with Jennmar.
Jennmar will work directly with Kemi's underground management and technical teams on a structured change-management process aimed at optimizing mining operations. Outokumpu reported revenue of €5.5 billion in 2025, employs roughly 8,600 people across nearly 30 countries, and is headquartered in Helsinki with shares listed on Nasdaq Helsinki.
