SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 1, 2024 – In a move towards greater sustainability, KHS Group has introduced an innovative packaging solution for the beverage industry: the Nature MultiPack with a cardboard carrying handle. This eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic film offers numerous benefits for both consumers and producers.

Responding to the Call for Sustainable Packaging

Dortmund, November 28, 2024 – Totally without plastic film and thus twice as environmentally friendly: the unique Nature MultiPack from the KHS Group can now be combined with a simple and practical carrying handle made of cardboard. In view of increasing climate change, both consumers and legislators are demanding that industry and commerce come up with more environmentally-friendly and more sustainable forms of packaging. There’s thus a considerable interest in systems that provide this – even more so if the benefits prove both ecological and economical. After all, the use of less material also means a cut in packaging costs.

The Nature MultiPack, developed in partnership with the Hinojosa Packaging Group, replaces shrink film with a few dots of adhesive to secure PET bottles and aluminum cans into packs. This results in an 85% reduction in material consumption and up to a two-thirds reduction in energy use compared to conventional packaging methods.

Introducing the BottleClip Carrier

The new BottleClip Carrier, a kraft paper carrying handle, further enhances the sustainability of the Nature MultiPack. This convenient handle is attached to just two bottles in the pack, regardless of the total number of bottles. Its design ensures secure transportation while providing a comfortable grip for consumers.

Benefits of the BottleClip Carrier

  • Environmentally Friendly: Made from recyclable cardboard, reducing plastic waste.
  • Comfortable Handling: Provides a more comfortable grip compared to plastic film handles.
  • Flexible Design: Accommodates pack sizes from two to eight bottles, with various bottle sizes and volumes.
  • Efficient Processing: Designed for easy integration into KHS packaging machines, minimizing production downtime and space requirements.

Extensive Testing and Development

KHS and Hinojosa conducted extensive testing to ensure the BottleClip Carrier's functionality, durability, and consumer appeal. The iterative design process resulted in a handle that is both practical and sustainable.

A Sustainable Solution for the Beverage Industry

The Nature MultiPack with the BottleClip Carrier represents a significant step towards more sustainable packaging in the beverage industry. By eliminating plastic film and utilizing recyclable materials, KHS offers a solution that benefits both the environment and consumers.

"We believed it was important to find a shape that’s as simple as possible for application in the packer,” emphasizes van Triel. “What good is the best solution if it’s so complex that it can’t be quickly and easily processed on our machines?”

With growing consumer demand for eco-friendly packaging and increasing legislative pressure to reduce plastic waste, the Nature MultiPack with the BottleClip Carrier is poised to become a leading solution for beverage producers worldwide.
