San Francisco – September 30, 2026 -- Kong Inc. has launched Volcano, an AI-native platform that consolidates durable compute, branchable databases, file storage, authentication and real-time services into a single developer environment for building and deploying AI agents and web applications.
Kong unifies fragmented AI infrastructure into one platform
Volcano addresses a core pain point for developers building AI agents: assembling separate providers for compute, databases, authentication, storage and observability, each with distinct configuration, billing and failure modes. Marco Palladino, CTO and co-founder of Kong Inc., said the platform lets teams move from a single prompt to a production-ready agent, removing the need to stitch together infrastructure manually.
Platform ships with integrations for Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and Cursor
Volcano includes first-class support for popular agentic coding tools, positioning it to plug directly into existing developer workflows. Key technical features include PostgreSQL databases provisioned in seconds with built-in backups and vector support for AI workloads, plus branching capability. Edge Functions allow code and agents to run across multiple regions and languages with autoscaling and geofencing for data-sensitive use cases.
Feature set spans hosting, authentication and multi-agent coordination
The platform offers Next.js frontend hosting via a global CDN with DDoS protection, authentication and SSO-as-a-service with unlimited users and third-party SSO support, and real-time services for database event listening and multi-agent coordination. Global file storage with configurable access policies and tools for locks, queues and human-approval workflows round out the offering for single- and multi-crew agent architectures.
Sandboxing compute and enterprise governance to follow
Kong said sandboxing compute availability will follow shortly after the announcement. Volcano is compatible with the broader Kong Konnect platform, enabling enterprise-scale governance of AI agents and AI connectivity. Kong plans to expand cloud services further across compute, data, application services and agent infrastructure. The company noted that this Volcano product is distinct from the VolcanoSDK announced in 2025.
