North Sutton, N.H. – October 01, 2026 -- Labsphere, Inc. has acquired Photon Gear, Inc., an Ontario, New York-based designer of ultra-high-precision custom optical systems and lens assemblies, combining light generation and measurement with precision lens engineering under one supplier.
Labsphere consolidates lens design and light measurement into a single vendor offering
The deal merges Labsphere's platform for light generation, control, and measurement with Photon Gear's custom lens design, assembly, and interferometric test capabilities. Customers in medical devices, analytical instrumentation, semiconductor, and aerospace and defense can now source a designed-to-specification lens assembly alongside the light sources, integrating spheres, and calibration needed to qualify it from one company, cutting design cycles and reducing the vendor count on a program.
Photon Gear brings 26 years of interferometric testing expertise to the combined entity
Founded in 2000, Photon Gear designs, assembles, and characterizes high-precision optical systems supported by multi-wavelength interferometric test capability. Its lens assemblies serve semiconductor inspection and processing, medical and clinical instrumentation, metrology, and defense programs.
Labsphere CEO frames deal as move toward full-cycle optical solutions
Robert Harrison, President & CEO of Labsphere, said Photon Gear's expertise in precision optical components and systems complements Labsphere's light generation, control, and measurement capabilities, advancing the company's goal of delivering optical solutions from concept through commercialization.
Photon Gear leadership points to expanded market reach under new ownership
Gary Blough, PhD, President & CEO of Photon Gear, said the combination allows both organizations to deliver more integrated solutions while expanding into new markets and applications.
Labsphere said it will maintain continuity across customer relationships, product availability, and service to ensure a seamless transition for existing clients of both companies.
