Marel Power Wins $1.9M Michigan Grant for EV Power Stack Line

Plymouth, Mich. – September 20, 2026 -- Marel Power Solutions has secured $1.9 million through Michigan's Supplier Conversion Grant Program to fund a pilot production line for its power stack platform in Plymouth, Michigan.

Eleven suppliers split $21 million to retool for EV production

Marel is one of eleven Michigan automotive suppliers selected to share $21 million administered by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO). The program, backed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Domestic Automotive Manufacturing Conversion Grant initiative, targets domestic manufacturing capacity for vehicle components and helps established suppliers adapt to industry shifts toward electrification.

Marel claims quarter-size power stacks at 30% lower cost

CEO Amrit Vivekanand said the company's configurable platform delivers equivalent power output in roughly one-quarter of the physical space at 30% lower cost than conventional designs. The funding will purchase equipment enabling pilot-scale production of power stacks used in EV traction inverters, battery disconnect units, onboard chargers and charging infrastructure. Vivekanand said the configurable architecture lets customers select an existing configuration rather than commission a new design from scratch.

Same architecture targets data center and defense power systems

Marel's power stack platform, built on dense packaging of power semiconductors and aggressive cooling, is being deployed first in electric vehicles, with the company positioning the same technology for Defense and Data Center power systems. Vivekanand said rising AI compute demand is forcing infrastructure providers to deliver more power without expanding physical footprint, an area where Marel's compact power electronics could free up rack space for compute rather than power conversion.

Pilot line begins with EV applications in Michigan

The Plymouth pilot line will start with electric vehicle applications, marking Marel's initial manufacturing scale-up under the state-administered grant.
