Boston – September 19, 2026 -- Maverick Corporation will lead engineering and construction on the largest municipal curbside EV charging buildout in the United States, a New York City contract calling for 600 new chargers across all five boroughs over three years.
NYC and NYPA select it's electric to replace pilot charging infrastructure citywide
The City of New York and the New York Power Authority officially selected it's electric in August to build the permanent PlugNYC network, procured through a contract with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. Maverick, a 30-year-old Make Ready design and construction firm, will handle installation and utility coordination for the rollout.
Deployment targets neighborhoods with high concentrations of TLC drivers
The buildout prioritizes areas with dense New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission driver populations and limited off-street parking. NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn said the initiative supports the city's Green Rides mandate, which requires all TLC-licensed Uber and Lyft trips to be electric or accessible by 2030, and extends charging access to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods underserved by private options.
Boston 2025 rollout served as the operational blueprint
Maverick and it's electric previously delivered Boston's curbside charging program in 2025, a project that established the execution model now scaled to New York. Nathan King, co-founder and CEO of it's electric, said Maverick's role in getting the Boston buildout powered and delivered was central to taking on the New York contract.
Maverick brings a multi-state utility coordination track record to the contract
Diarmuid Clancy, President of Maverick EV Services, cited the firm's long-standing relationship with NYPA and New York State on prior EV infrastructure projects. Founded in 1996, Maverick has completed several hundred EV Turnkey and Make Ready projects across New York and New England, including a 5,000-charger buildout in the Northwest, with a client roster spanning NYPA, the New York Office of General Services, Applegreen, the City of Boston, Eversource, and Rhode Island's NEVI program.
