Bethesda, Md. – September 30, 2026 -- The Fuerza Aérea Mexicana (FAM) has acquired a second Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifter, doubling the response capacity it gained from its first aircraft purchase announced in January 2026.
Mexico becomes a two-aircraft Super Hercules operator within a single year
The January 2026 acquisition made Mexico the first Latin American nation to join the global Super Hercules fleet, which now exceeds 570 aircraft worldwide. The second aircraft continues the FAM's recapitalization of its legacy Hercules fleet, a platform it has operated for more than five decades.
Stretch variant adds 15 feet of cargo space over legacy models
The C-130J-30 offers increased power, range, fuel efficiency and payload capacity compared with the FAM's older Hercules aircraft. Lockheed Martin says the platform is certified across 20 mission sets, including airdrop, medevac, firefighting and special operations.
Earlier-model C-130s delivered aid after Venezuela's twin earthquakes
Following twin earthquakes in Venezuela, Mexico deployed earlier-generation C-130 Hercules aircraft to transport emergency supplies, medical aid and personnel to the affected region. The second C-130J-30 will double the FAM's overall C-130 fleet response capacity, though the Venezuela relief operation itself was conducted with legacy, non-J-model aircraft.
Lockheed Martin frames the deal as evidence of regional interoperability
Trish Pagan, vice president of Lockheed Martin's Air Mobility & Maritime Missions, said Mexico's continued investment reflects confidence in a platform offering decades of operational readiness and interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
The expanded fleet positions Mexico to sustain humanitarian assistance missions across Latin America while reinforcing its strategic airlift role in regional security cooperation with the United States and allied nations.
