Midmark RTLS Adds Staff Duress Alerts to Epic Toolbox

Versailles, Ohio – September 30, 2026 -- Midmark RTLS has added its CareFlow RTLS Staff Duress solution to the Epic Toolbox in the Staff Duress category for 2026, integrating real-time, location-aware caregiver duress alerts directly into Epic's electronic health record system.

Badge-based alerts feed directly into Epic's push notification framework

CareFlow Staff Duress connects to Epic using HL7 FHIR-based APIs, allowing Midmark RTLS badges already worn by caregivers to trigger duress alerts with a discreet button press. When activated, Epic receives the staff member's identity and real-time location and notifies designated security and informational response groups through its push notification system. Responders can acknowledge or decline alerts within Epic itself, keeping emergency coordination inside existing clinical software.

Solution eliminates need for separate panic-button hardware

The system uses the same RTLS badges caregivers already wear for clinical workflow automation and communication, rather than requiring standalone panic-button devices. Midmark RTLS says this reduces device burden on staff while still supplying responders with the location data needed to act quickly during workplace violence incidents.

Deployment flexibility spans BLE, infrared and hybrid RTLS technologies

Healthcare organizations can deploy CareFlow Staff Duress using Bluetooth Low Energy, Infrared, or Hybrid RTLS configurations, enabling facilities to build on existing RTLS infrastructure or start with a simpler BLE rollout. HT Snowday, senior director at Midmark RTLS, said protecting caregivers requires connected technology that delivers the right information to the right people at the right time, rather than a standalone panic button.

Integration builds on a 14-year Epic partnership dating to 2012

Midmark RTLS deployed its first CareFlow RTLS-Epic integration in 2012 and has since expanded into real-time location visibility, patient flow and workflow automation. The Staff Duress addition marks the company's latest expansion within the Epic ecosystem, where the solution is now listed in the Staff Duress Toolbox category in Epic Showroom.
