Mimaki Unveils Industry-First CMR-Free UV Inks, Pioneering Safer and More Sustainable Printing at FESPA 2025

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – May 2, 2025 – Mimaki Europe is set to redefine sustainability and safety standards in the sign graphics and industrial printing sectors with the global debut of its new ELH and ELS UV inks at FESPA Global Print Expo 2025. These next-generation inks are the first in the industry to be entirely free of CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, and Reproductive toxicants) and SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern), marking a significant milestone for environmentally responsible print production.

A Strategic Step Toward Sustainable Innovation

With increasing global scrutiny on hazardous substances in manufacturing, Mimaki’s proactive launch of CMR- and SVHC-free inks reflects a forward-thinking strategy aimed at aligning with regulatory trends and brand sustainability commitments. The ELH and ELS inks deliver high-performance functionality while significantly minimizing environmental and health risks—a combination that positions them as a compelling solution for printers and brands alike.

Arjen Evertse, Director Sales at Mimaki Europe, emphasized the strategic relevance: “In recent years, demand for CMR-free products has been growing rapidly against the backdrop of increasing awareness for safety, the environment, and health. Being the first to develop inks that meet these concerns head-on demonstrates Mimaki’s commitment to developing products that are safe, highly functional and environmentally friendly.”

Enhanced Performance Without Compromise

Designed to match the high standards of Mimaki’s existing UV ink range, the new ELH and ELS inks ensure printers won’t have to trade performance for safety.

Key benefits of the new ELH and ELS inks include:

  • Full CMR- and SVHC-free formulation, aligning with global health and environmental regulations.
  • Up to 30% reduction in odor compared to conventional UV inks, promoting a more comfortable working environment.
  • High scratch resistance (ELH) comparable to LH-100 inks.
  • Exceptional flexibility (ELS) equivalent to LUS-120 inks.

These innovations deliver not only technical excellence but also operational improvements in print shop environments where exposure to ink emissions is a growing concern.

Industry Momentum and Market Opportunities

As brands intensify focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investments, solutions like Mimaki’s ELH and ELS inks offer B2B customers a competitive edge. With sustainability now a defining factor in B2B procurement and vendor selection, the adoption of CMR-free printing technologies aligns suppliers with evolving brand values and compliance requirements.

“In addition, many of the brands our customers supply now promote CMR-free compliance as part of efforts to strengthen corporate sustainability strategies and ESG investment,” Evertse added. “These new inks will therefore give our customers a strong competitive edge to further support brands with their own sustainability strategy and goals.”

FESPA 2025: A Milestone Launch and 50th Anniversary Celebration

The ELH and ELS inks will be showcased for the first time at Mimaki’s booth (Hall 1.2 / Stand B20) during FESPA 2025. Visitors can experience live demonstrations of the new inks in action, along with a full display of Mimaki’s latest technologies as the company marks its 50th anniversary.

The new UV inks are scheduled for gradual release starting in June 2025. Industry professionals attending FESPA will get a first-hand look at this game-changing technology and learn how it supports safer, more sustainable print operations.
