Mysk's First Saudi Hotel Uses Crystalline Waterproofing for Red Sea Site

Jeddah – October 02, 2026 -- The Mysk Al Wadi Jeddah Hotel, the first Mysk-branded luxury property in Saudi Arabia, will open in September 2026 after builders treated over 2,000 cubic meters of concrete with crystalline waterproofing admixture to counter high groundwater and chloride exposure at the Red Sea construction site.

General contractor specified PENETRON ADMIX for below-grade structures exposed to groundwater

Faraj Abdulkarim Est, the project's general contractor, required a waterproofing solution for below-grade concrete after excavation depths revealed elevated groundwater levels at the site in Jeddah's Obhur district, near the Jeddah Corniche. Sam Annous, Managing Director of Penetron Saudi Arabia, said the hotel's proximity to the Red Sea made resilience against chloride-rich conditions a parallel priority alongside groundwater control.

Admixture treated raft foundation, retaining walls, parking floors and water-retaining structures

PENETRON ADMIX was integrated into the concrete mix used for the raft foundation, retaining walls, parking floors, drinking water tanks and swimming pool, covering more than 2,000 m3 (2,620 yds3) of concrete. PENEBAR SW-45A, a swellable waterstop strip, was applied to permanently seal construction joints across the below-grade structures.

Crystalline reaction forms a permanent non-soluble barrier within concrete pores

The active ingredients in PENETRON ADMIX SB react catalytically with moisture in the concrete, generating a non-soluble crystalline network through the material's pores and capillary tracts. This network is designed to block water and liquid penetration from any direction, including under sustained saltwater exposure at the Jeddah site.

Four-star hotel will add 90 rooms to Jeddah's expanding hospitality sector

Jeddah, a city of roughly 5.5 million people and Saudi Arabia's primary Red Sea commercial port, serves as a main embarkation point for Muslim pilgrims traveling to Mecca and Medina. The Mysk Al Wadi Jeddah Hotel will offer 90 rooms across five floors, along with a restaurant, café, meeting rooms, kids' club, fitness center and rooftop pool.
