National Grid Courts North Wales Suppliers After £116.2m Welsh Spend

Caernarfon – – October 12, 2026 -- National Grid, which spent £116.2m with Welsh suppliers in 2025, is inviting North Wales businesses to a free Meet the Buyer event on Tuesday 6 October to compete for work on its Pentir to Trawsfynydd reinforcement project.

Event brings buyers and delivery partners together in Caernarfon

The session runs from 08:30 to 12:30 at the Celtic Royal Hotel & Spa in Caernarfon. It is delivered with Business Wales. Attendees will receive information on supplier requirements and procurement processes, and will meet National Grid and its Great Grid Partnership delivery partners Murphy, Morgan Sindall and M Group.

Project partners will outline potential work programmes. Advance registration is required through the Business Wales Event Finder.

Project targets the high-voltage link between Pentir and Trawsfynydd

The project will reinforce and refurbish parts of the existing high-voltage network between the two sites to carry rising volumes of clean energy across Wales. It forms part of The Great Grid Upgrade, which National Grid describes as the largest overhaul of the electricity network in generations.

National Grid expects electricity demand to rise significantly as homes, businesses, industry and transport change how they are powered. That will require continued network investment and a broad range of skills and services.

Organisers target firms of all sizes across 11 named trades

The event is open to businesses in construction, landscaping, drainage, traffic management, surfacing, environmental services, haulage, site security, catering, accommodation and professional services.

John Lamb, Project Director at National Grid, said the company wants local firms to "build relationships with our delivery partners" and understand which goods, services and expertise the project may need.

Kelly Thomas, Supply Chain Engagement Manager at Business Wales, said the event will help firms connect with organisations involved in delivery and learn how to prepare for future work.

National Grid says it has set up long-term supply chain partnerships to support major network upgrades. It says the Welsh spend is helping suppliers build capability and create jobs.
