New York – October 16, 2026 -- The NHP Foundation (NHPF) has created a new Vice President of Fundraising and Communications position and filled it with Megan Carras, who raised more than $25 million in revenue at her previous employer, the Washington Area Community Investment Fund (WACIF).

Carras joins NHPF's New York office with more than a decade of experience in community development finance, nonprofit fundraising, communications and research. NHPF, a national not-for-profit developer of affordable housing, will rely on her to build funding partnerships and direct strategic communications.

Carras Secured Wells Fargo, CareFirst, Starbucks and JPMorgan Chase as WACIF Funders

Carras spent six years at WACIF, most recently as Chief Development and Communications Officer and Head of Sustainability. Her fundraising strategies generated more than $25 million in revenue and brought in new funding partners including Wells Fargo, CareFirst, Starbucks and JPMorgan Chase.

She also led the capital campaign for the Anacostia Arts Center Redevelopment project. In addition, she directed strategic communications and marketing and advised WACIF's CEO, executive team and board.

Green Lending Product and Sustainability Report Add Climate Finance Depth

Carras authored the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Report and supported the design of a green lending product that linked community development with social equity and environmental goals. Earlier in her career, she was Associate Director and Senior Grant Writer at Elevate, a nonprofit fundraising consulting firm, where she served clients in affordable housing, environmental, education and other mission-driven sectors.

NHPF Ties Hire to Strategic Plan and Operation Pathways Services

NHPF President and CEO Eric Price said Carras will help the organization execute its strategic plan by building support to expand quality affordable housing and the onsite resident services of Operation Pathways, NHPF's subsidiary.

Carras holds a PhD in Geography and Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews, an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, an MA in Environmental Management from Harvard University and a BA in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. She completed the Bridgespan Executive Leadership Accelerator in 2025 and has published on housing, sustainable entrepreneurship and community development climate finance.
