Washington – September 23, 2026 -- George Guszcza, President and CEO of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), has been appointed to the National Construction Safety Team Advisory Committee (NCSTAC), a federal panel that guides the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on building failure investigations.
Committee advises NIST on probes into building failures causing mass casualties
NCSTAC operates under the National Construction Safety Team Act, which authorizes NIST to investigate building failures that result in substantial loss of life or pose significant public safety threats. Findings from these investigations feed into recommendations affecting national building codes, construction standards, and safety practices.
Guszcza brings disaster recovery and infrastructure resilience background to panel
Guszcza has held senior leadership roles across public and private sectors, with prior work spanning disaster recovery, infrastructure resilience, healthcare facilities, and emergency response initiatives.
