Washington, D.C. – – September 19, 2026 -- NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, released its 2026 Congressional Report Card, grading sitting U.S. Representatives and Senators on legislation affecting firearm commerce, Second Amendment rights and hunting and recreational shooting.
NSSF names 14 Senators and 71 Representatives to its 'Dean's List' for perfect voting records
To earn Dean's List status, lawmakers needed a 100-percent voting and co-sponsorship record on firearm industry priority legislation during the 119th Congress. NSSF additionally awarded 13 Senators and 41 Representatives an 'A+' rating, based on floor votes, bill sponsorship, committee work and letters signed in support of industry positions.
Five newly elected lawmakers were excluded from grading due to insufficient voting history
NSSF said five Members of Congress who entered office via special elections lacked sufficient voting and co-sponsorship records to be scored under the report card's methodology.
Report card timed to reach voters seven weeks before November elections
"This report card will be critical for voters to do their research as we head into the final stretch towards the November elections just seven weeks from now," said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. NSSF stated the grades reflect lawmakers' public voting records and legislative engagement on industry priorities but do not constitute an endorsement of or opposition to any candidacy.
Grading covers the full 2025-2026 legislative session under the 119th Congress
NSSF said the nonpartisan scorecard tracks each lawmaker's support across the two-year congressional term, covering votes, co-sponsorships and leadership on issues tied to lawful firearm and ammunition commerce.
