Hoffman Estates, Ill. – September 18, 2026 -- Omron Automation Americas has launched the NX-CT High-Speed Counter, a module capable of executing counter-match outputs within 1 microsecond, aiming to eliminate control delays tied to conventional PLC scan cycles.
New module targets timing gaps in high-speed manufacturing processes
The NX-CT joins Omron's NX Series Modular I/O platform and is built for applications where microsecond-level timing directly affects output quality, including liquid filling, dispensing, inspection triggering, and laser processing. Traditional control architectures often cannot process these time-sensitive events fast enough, creating variability in fill levels, inspection accuracy, and machine synchronization.
Edge-level processing moves counting functions off the PLC scan cycle
By executing counter-match outputs at the machine level rather than waiting on PLC scan times, the NX-CT allows manufacturers to make control decisions closer to the physical process. Omron states this reduces system complexity while improving precision and cutting variation across automation lines.
Advance time setting compensates for actuator response delays
An integrated advance time setting adjusts for lag introduced by downstream actuators such as valves and lasers, allowing process accuracy to hold steady as production speeds rise or conditions shift. Omron says this feature can reduce material waste and improve first-pass yield on high-throughput lines.
Module integrates directly into Omron's existing Sysmac and NX architecture
The NX-CT is fully compatible with the Sysmac automation platform and EtherCAT-based NX architecture, giving machine builders a consistent engineering environment across control applications. For manufacturers running legacy systems, the module offers a direct upgrade path to higher-speed performance without a full platform overhaul.
"Manufacturers today are under constant pressure to increase throughput without sacrificing quality," said Alex Ocampo, Product Manager at OMRON Automation Americas. "The NX-CT was developed to help machine builders overcome one of the most persistent challenges in high-speed automation."
