Austin – October 02, 2026 -- Oracle has committed to subscribing to a portion of electricity generated by the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Wisconsin, a move expected to save utility customers approximately $300 million in fuel costs. The commitment is designed to shield more than 1 million Wisconsin utility customers from the plant's rising operating costs while preserving carbon-free baseload power for the state grid.
Oracle absorbs rising nuclear fuel costs to protect household electricity bills
Point Beach has supplied dependable, carbon-free power to Wisconsin for more than 50 years. By subscribing to a share of the plant's output, Oracle intends to cover increases in fuel costs that would otherwise be passed on to ratepayers, according to Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Commitment extends Oracle's $11 billion Project Lighthouse data center investment in Port Washington
The Point Beach subscription builds on Oracle's existing Project Lighthouse data center development in Port Washington, Wisconsin, which the company projects will generate more than $11 billion for the local economy. The project is expected to create more than 4,000 skilled construction jobs over three years and support 1,000 ongoing operations positions, alongside workforce development programs and local infrastructure investment.
Oracle has also pledged to fully fund Project Lighthouse's own energy costs, a step intended to prevent the data center's power demand from pushing up electricity bills for existing ratepayers or straining grid reliability.
Regulatory approval from Wisconsin's Public Service Commission remains pending
The planned subscription to the Point Beach purchase power arrangement requires approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin before it can proceed. Oracle said it intends to work with state and local officials through the review process.
