Pratt & Whitney Canada Inks 4-Year PW127M MRO Deal With AirBorneo

Singapore – September 24, 2026 -- Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a four-year maintenance, repair and overhaul agreement with AirBorneo Airways covering PW127M engines through 2030, with work centered at the RTX unit's newly expanded Singapore facility.

Agreement locks in engine support for Sarawak's rural air network

The deal covers PW127M engines powering AirBorneo's fleet of ATR 72-500 turboprops, which operate the Rural Air Services network connecting remote communities across East Malaysia's Borneo interior. Anthony Rossi, vice president of Customer Service at Pratt & Whitney Canada, said the arrangement was designed to manage engine costs while supporting high dispatch availability for the airline's critical rural routes.

Singapore hub gains expanded turproprop MRO capacity

Recent investments at the Singapore facility have broadened its turboprop MRO capabilities, positioning it as a regional hub for Asia-Pacific customers. AirBorneo CEO Megat Ardian Aminuddin said basing engine maintenance in Singapore shortens turnaround times and returns aircraft to service faster, supporting operational reliability on intra-Borneo routes where air transport remains a primary link for isolated communities.

PW100 family has logged more than 200 million flight hours

The PW127M is part of the PW100 engine family, which has supported regional turboprop operations for more than 40 years and accumulated over 200 million flight hours across global operators.

AirBorneo expands beyond rural routes since 2026 launch

AirBorneo Airways, Sarawak's state-owned carrier, was established in January 2026 following the transition from MASWings and launched jet operations to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in July 2026. Its fleet includes ATR 72-500s powered by PW127M engines and Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otters powered by PT6A-34 engines, alongside eight ATR-600 aircraft on order equipped with PW127XT Series engines.
