Mahwah, N.J. – October 08, 2026 -- The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and the American Society of Perfumers (ASP) will hold a joint program on November 18, 2026, explaining the independent science behind fragrance ingredient safety assessments.
Event brings perfumers face-to-face with the safety data behind their materials
The program, titled "The Science Behind What You Create: Fragrance Safety Brought to Life," will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fairfield Hotel & Suites, 690 US-46, Fairfield, NJ 07004, from 9:00 AM to noon Eastern Time. Breakfast and networking will open the event, with the main presentation starting at 9:30 AM, followed by guided scent sampling.
RIFM leadership to detail exposure science and Maximum Acceptable Concentrations
Anne Marie Api, PhD, Fellow ATS and President of RIFM, and Danielle Botelho, PhD, Director of Scientific Operations, will present on exposure science, independent expert review, non-animal testing methods, and Maximum Acceptable Concentrations (MAC) used in fragrance safety assessment.
MAC values underlie IFRA Standards governing global fragrance ingredient use
RIFM's MAC values are derived from peer-reviewed scientific data and realistic consumer exposure information, then vetted by an independent Expert Panel. These values form the scientific basis for IFRA Standards, which govern permissible ingredient concentrations across the global fragrance industry.
Registration set at $50 for members, $60 for non-members
The program is open to all industry participants, including professional perfumers and others working across the fragrance supply chain. Registration costs $50 for ASP and RIFM members and $60 for all other attendees.
