Kyoto – September 18, 2026 -- ROHM Co., Ltd. has developed the RS4P063BPHZG, a 100V MOSFET delivering approximately five times the Safe Operating Area (SOA) tolerance of standard equivalent-sized products under VDS=100V and PW=100 microseconds.
New MOSFET targets automotive safety and protection circuits
The RS4P063BPHZG is optimized for airbag inflator ignition circuits, seat belt pretensioner drive circuits, and pyro-fuse drive circuits for battery cutoff. ROHM engineered the device to effectively suppress secondary breakdown, achieving Wide-SOA performance across a broad voltage range while housed in the standard HPLF5060 (5060-size) package widely used across automotive applications.
Standard package size cuts design-change costs for automakers
Because the RS4P063BPHZG uses the industry-standard 5060 footprint, manufacturers can evaluate it as a drop-in replacement within existing layouts, reducing engineering workload and cost associated with redesigning circuit boards. This is intended to accelerate adoption in safety functions and protection circuits exposed to short-duration high-current and high-voltage stress during abnormal or emergency vehicle conditions.
Vehicle electrification drives demand for higher-voltage, higher-current components
ROHM cites rising vehicle electrification as a key driver behind demand for automotive systems capable of supporting higher voltages and currents, particularly in safety-critical circuits that experience momentary high-power loads during fault conditions. The company has previously supplied Wide-SOA products to AI server and industrial power supply markets, including components selected as recommended parts by a global cloud platform provider, and is now transferring that technology base to automotive applications.
ROHM expands Wide-SOA portfolio across additional package sizes
Beyond the HPLF5060 package, ROHM is developing automotive Wide-SOA MOSFETs in the HPLF8080 (8.0 x 8.0 mm) and TOLG (TO-Leaded with Gullwing, 9.9 x 11.7 mm) formats, signaling a broader roadmap for its automotive safety and protection circuit lineup.
