Pewaukee, Wis. – October 07, 2026 -- Real Time Automation, Inc. (RTA) has released the 435NBX-S2E, a single serial ASCII and single Ethernet port protocol gateway built to connect directly to Allen-Bradley PLCs, replacing the 435NBX-NNA1, which has moved to end-of-sale status.
New gateway adds native Micro800 support to cut hardware costs
The 435NBX-S2E communicates with CompactLogix, ControlLogix, FlexLogix, MicroLogix, SLC 5/05, PLC-5E, Micro820, Micro850 and Micro870 controllers. RTA says native Micro800 support removes the need for external serial plug-in modules or extra protocol converters, lowering bill-of-materials costs for OEM and high-volume customers.
Built-in PLC discovery removes manual IP configuration
The device includes automatic PLC discovery through its browser-based configuration page, letting engineers locate networked Allen-Bradley controllers without knowing IP addresses or buying additional discovery hardware. RTA states this, combined with zero required ladder logic and no MSG instructions or EDS/AOP configuration, cuts commissioning time from hours of custom coding to a five-minute browser setup.
CEO cites unchanged workflow to avoid integrator retraining
"Integrators can jump straight in with the familiar 435NBX configuration workflow they already trust, moving raw ASCII data from a scanner, scale, printer or RFID reader straight into the PLC with minimal PLC code," said John Rinaldi, RTA CEO. He added that native Micro800 support and automatic discovery are built into the browser configuration page, requiring no extra hardware.
Core ASCII handling carries over from the previous 435NBX platform
The S2E retains full serial ASCII handling on RS-232 and RS-485, flexible message parsing by character length, bus idle time or custom delimiters, and configurable leading and trailing delimiters for outbound strings. RTA says the identical tag-handshake architecture means existing standard code templates remain intact with no retraining required for field engineers.
The 435NBX-S2E is now RTA's standard single-port ASCII gateway and is available to order immediately.
