Scailarc, Nokia, Elisa Demo Call Completion Without Answering

Helsinki – September 19, 2026 -- Scailarc, Nokia and Elisa have completed a proof-of-concept demonstrating a first-of-its-kind mobile calling scenario in which a customer completes a service task without ever answering the call, using IMS Data Channel technology and Nokia's Network as Code platform for trusted caller verification.

Customer books fibre installation via visual screen while call rings unanswered

In the demo, Elisa calls a customer about a fibre installation. Unable to speak, the customer views a trusted interactive call screen and selects "Book installation time." Elisa's system registers the customer moving to self-service, and the task is completed immediately without the call being picked up. The call was placed using the new Jolla Phone.

Solution embeds interactive content directly into native phone app, no separate app required

Built by Scailarc with support from Nokia and Elisa, the technology extends a standard voice call into a trusted media channel active before, during and after the call. Companies gain improved reachability and service completion by presenting customers a clear reason for the call, verified context and simple interactive options. Customers gain a way to resolve service tasks when speaking is not possible or appropriate.

IMS Data Channel, a 3GPP standard, works independent of device or mobile OS

The system relies on IMS Data Channel, enabling rich data interactions inside a standard phone call, combined with Nokia's Network as Code capabilities for caller identification. The interfaces run in an isolated environment within the phone's native calling app, preventing access to phone data. Data is encrypted, and Scailarc verifies application content and digital fingerprints to prevent hijacking.

Executives target healthcare, banking, logistics and public safety sectors for rollout

Marko Rapeli, Co-founder & CEO of Scailarc, said the proof of concept shows how a traditional phone call can become a trusted, interactive customer service channel, allowing customers to complete tasks faster and with confidence. Laura Pitkänen, Vice President, Subscriptions and Services, Corporate Customers at Elisa, said the demonstration shows the potential to reduce daily life friction and confirmed plans to further develop the technology for corporate and consumer customers. Shkumbin Hamiti, Vice President, Network Monetization Platform at Nokia, said programmable network capabilities can help developers and service providers create new real-time, trusted, contextual communications directly within the call experience.

The companies identified healthcare, banking, public services, logistics, public safety and legally required customer contacts as sectors where identification, timely action and customer confidence are critical to adoption.
