Boston – October 19, 2026 -- VIA Science, Inc. has created the post of Chief Mission Officer and appointed Joe Babiec, previously its Chief Commercial Officer, to fill it as the software provider scales globally.
Babiec moves from commercial chief to a mission-focused mandate
Babiec joined VIA in 2018. VIA supplies software to defense, law enforcement and humanitarian organizations. In the new role he will lead efforts to expand the company's mission impact with customers and the communities it serves.
The company defines its mission as securing data and AI for community safety, resilience and prosperity.
Internal and external remits cover customer decisions and public profile
Internally, Babiec will ensure that VIA's customer and partner decisions support that mission. Externally, he will raise awareness of VIA's impact as the company expands across the globe.
Co-founder and CEO Colin Gounden said the role gives Babiec a mandate to uphold VIA's "no compromise" ethos in increasingly complex and volatile markets. Gounden added that Babiec will also help convey the company's work to policymakers, industry leaders and the communities VIA supports.
Three decades of advisory, venture and board experience back the appointment
Babiec has three decades of experience as a strategic advisor, entrepreneur, early-stage venture investor and private equity company board member. He has worked with senior corporate, government, non-profit, labor and media stakeholders in the U.S. and internationally. Gounden cited his combined commercial and public policy background.
Babiec graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the London School of Economics. He said he will work with partner organizations on global challenges through the responsible use of artificial intelligence and other advanced digital technologies.
