Scientific Games Wins Communitas Award for German Pallet Recycling

Atlanta – October 12, 2026 -- Scientific Games has won a 2026 Communitas Award for Excellence in Corporate Responsibility. The award, in the Ethical and Environmental Responsibility: Green Initiatives category, recognizes a project that recycles wooden shipping pallets in Germany with the v. Bodelschwingh Foundations Bethel, one of the country's largest social service organizations.

Scientific Games donated hundreds of lottery pallets to the Bethel project

The pallets were used to ship lottery scratchcards to German lotteries. Because the untreated wood no longer goes to landfill, it is turned into birdhouses and toys. Members of the disabled community make the items by hand at Bethel's Kracks Workshop.

Bethel sells the finished items in its retail shop. The revenue supports the organization's programs, workshop operations and future initiatives for people with disabilities.

Regular wood donations are helping Bethel prepare for larger projects

The partnership is ongoing. According to the source, regular material contributions are helping Bethel expand its woodworking capabilities and prepare for larger, more complex projects.

Jürgen Hoff, head of Bethel's Kracks Workshop, said donations of quality wood are especially valuable now because charitable contributions are declining in economically challenging times. The donated materials let participants make products that fund additional programs and build skills through work.

Dunja Vukotic-Finkler, Director, Instant Tickets & Service Operations at Scientific Games, said her team initiated the project. She said the pallets become products that support skills development and employment for people with disabilities.

Scientific Games has now won three Communitas Awards in two years

The 2026 award follows two Communitas Awards the company received in 2025. One was for the SG Tech Project, which donates refurbished technology to local schools. The other was for its volunteer participation in a STEAM career mentoring program for young women.

Andrew Jackson, VP, Corporate Responsibility for Scientific Games, said the company aims to invest in locally led initiatives that create measurable environmental and social impact.

Scientific Games supplies games, technology, analytics and services to 150 lotteries in 50 countries, including 16 lotteries in Germany.
