SENS PowerCab2 Cuts Data Center DC Power Costs by Up to $80M

Longmont, Colo. – September 18, 2026 -- Stored Energy Systems (SENS) says its PowerCab2 platform can save data center operators an estimated $20 million to $80 million on a typical 1 gigawatt campus by eliminating dedicated battery rooms and consolidating hundreds of discrete DC power components into a single factory-tested system.

PowerCab2 removes over 300 square feet of battery-room space per structure

The integrated platform typically eliminates more than 300 square feet of dedicated battery-room space from a power distribution center (PDC) or E-house. At an estimated installed cost of $850 per square foot, SENS calculates capital savings of roughly $255,000 per structure.

A 1 GW campus with 80-300 structures can save $20,000-$80,000 per megawatt

Because a 1 GW data center campus may contain approximately 80 to 300 PDCs or E-houses, aggregated savings can total $20 million to $80 million, or roughly $20,000 to $80,000 per megawatt of campus capacity. The system also reduces PDC and E-house footprints by approximately 20% or more and requires less onsite integration, which SENS says can accelerate deployment timelines.

SENS technology already runs 80% of US hyperscale and colocation campuses

SENS states that eighty percent of hyperscale and colocation data center campuses in the United States currently use its DC power technology, collectively spanning multiple gigawatts of capacity. Eric Solanyk, Vice President of Mission Critical Power Systems at SENS, said campuses growing to gigawatt scale still lose valuable PDC and E-house space to DC power equipment, and that PowerCab consolidates critical DC power functions into one factory-engineered system to deliver project savings alongside scalability and reliability.

Platform supports multiple voltages, chemistries, and redundancy configurations

PowerCab2 provides 24 VDC, 48 VDC, 125 VDC, and 240 VDC control and station power, supports multiple battery chemistries, and offers N+1, N+N, and dual-bus redundancy. The system is available in NEMA 1 and NEMA 3R enclosures rated for operation from −40°C to 55°C.

SENS will demonstrate the system at Data Center World POWER in Dallas

SENS will showcase PowerCab2 at Booth #211 during Data Center World POWER, held September 21-23 in Dallas, Texas. Attendees can meet with SENS engineers to model footprint and capital savings for specific PDC and E-house designs.
