Chicago – October 02, 2026 -- Setara Financial Corp. has advanced development of its Reference Layer, a benchmark and reference-data infrastructure designed to bring standardized measurement to the fragmented global compute market.
Compute market data remains scattered across hardware, providers and geographies
As artificial intelligence drives investment in GPUs, data centers, power and connectivity, compute has become a critical economic input, yet pricing and performance information remains fragmented across disconnected proprietary data sets. Setara's architecture starts with a governed data model built to standardize heterogeneous compute-market information before it enters benchmark calculation.
Benchmark Calculation Engine governs evidence classification and quality control
The company's Benchmark Calculation Engine (BCE) provides the developing framework for evidence classification, eligibility review, normalization, calculation, quality control, provenance and controlled release. Combined with a governed data model, these components create a controlled path from raw compute-market information to benchmark determinations, where applicable requirements and authorization are satisfied. Setara is also developing the methodology, Rulebook, publication, correction, change-control and governance structures supporting these benchmark activities.
Four methodology families define Setara's current product framework
Setara's methodology architecture currently organizes potential benchmarks across four families: Trade/Spot, Cost/Breakeven, Pipeline/Supply Risk, and Utilization. The company stated these families represent its current product and methodology framework and do not mean every benchmark within them is currently available or authorized as an Official Setara Benchmark determination. Evaluation and methodology-development outputs are not Official Setara Benchmark determinations or live settlement references unless expressly identified as such.
Chicago-based firm builds distribution and public disclosure framework
Setara is developing reporting, data-feed and API capabilities to support future distribution of authorized benchmark and reference information. The company is also establishing a public methodology-disclosure framework covering evidence classification, calculation and release controls, source confidentiality, corrections, methodology changes and governance.
"Compute is becoming too important to the global economy to be measured through disconnected proprietary data sets," said Jack Bouroudjian, Chief Executive Officer of Setara Financial Corp. "The development of a financial market around compute requires a transparent and credible reference layer."
Robert Alberghine, President and Chief Operating Officer, said benchmark credibility begins with the integrity of underlying data and transparency of methodology, while protecting confidential source information. Chief Technology Officer Jeejo Pallayi described building a compute market as a data architecture and governance challenge as much as a financial one, requiring a common framework for evaluating heterogeneous information consistently.
