The device is engineered to minimize physical discomfort while maintaining reliable glucose tracking over a two-week wear period. SIBIONICS built the underlying sensor platform on engineering originally developed for its brain-computer interface work, including a retinal prosthesis designed to restore limited visual perception for patients with severe vision loss from degenerative outer retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa. The company adapted the precision biosensor and signal-processing technology from that high-complexity system into the more accessible GS3 CGM platform.

The session, titled "Beyond Glucose: The Integrated Future of CGM, CKM and AI in Diabetes," was chaired by Professor Sofianos Andrikopoulos, group CEO of the Australian Diabetes Society. Professor David O'Neal of the University of Melbourne, deputy director of the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations, reviewed emerging clinical evidence on continuous glucose and ketone body monitoring. Associate Professor Shannon Lin, a diabetes and nutrition specialist at the University of Technology Sydney, examined how CGM data can move beyond visualization toward personalized, predictive support. Professor Wei Qiang, associate chief physician and deputy director of endocrinology and metabolism at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, outlined an AI-driven ecosystem connecting reliable sensing, contextual data and continuous learning.

Diabetes educators cite AI-assisted meal logging and glucose spike detection

In anonymous interviews conducted at the SIBIONICS booth, diabetes educators described the GS3 sensor as small, lightweight, comfortable and easy to configure. They pointed to AI-assisted detection of glucose spikes, simplified meal logging and food analysis that links glucose trends to meal context as key advantages. Educators also stressed the need for personalization, clear carbohydrate estimates and clinically useful event timelines, emphasizing that AI tools should support rather than replace professional care and clinical decision-making.

SIBIONICS plans to integrate ketone monitoring and insulin delivery with its sensor platform

The company said it intends to combine its sensor technology with continuous ketone body monitoring, insulin delivery systems and additional AI tools to build a more complete diabetes management ecosystem. The stated goal is to accelerate the pathway from raw data collection to clinical understanding and, ultimately, to actionable treatment decisions.
