Atlanta – October 10, 2026 -- Southern Company's utilities have restored power to about 420,000 customers across Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi after Hurricane Isaias, with roughly 80,000 outages still open as of 6 p.m. ET.
Alabama accounts for most of the 80,000 remaining outages
Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power are working to restore service in the hardest-hit communities. Those outages are concentrated mainly in Alabama, where Hurricane Isaias crossed the state.
Mutual assistance network adds 6,400 outside personnel from 25 states
More than 6,400 outside personnel, including lineworkers, support staff and specialized equipment, have joined the effort through the electric industry's mutual assistance network. With Southern Company's own resources, utility crews and contractors from 25 states are supporting a coordinated restoration across the Southeast service territory. The three electric utilities have shifted crews, equipment and resources between them to where they are needed most.
The gas subsidiaries are also involved. Southern Company Gas, Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas are working with Georgia Power to support restoration as needed and emergency response.
Predictive analytics and AI guided pre-landfall crew positioning
Before landfall, Southern Company teams used storm technologies, including AI, to forecast potential impacts and identify the areas at greatest risk. They used the results to position crews, equipment and materials across the Southeast in advance. The company says predictive analytics and real-time operational data let teams adjust to changing conditions and start restoration as soon as conditions were safe.
Chairman, President and CEO Chris Womack said combining these technologies with storm response experience and the scale of the company's electric and natural gas businesses lets it position resources ahead of severe weather and restore service safely. He added that the company invests year-round in its grid, infrastructure, technologies, processes and workforce, including forecasting tools, resource planning and training.
