Lyon, France – October 01, 2026 -- TCL SunPower has opened order books across Europe for its X5 industrial hybrid energy storage system, a factory-assembled unit the company says cuts last-mile transport and installation costs by up to 60% compared with site-built systems.
Factory-assembled cabinet eliminates on-site inverter installation
The X5 integrates a 50kW hybrid inverter directly inside the cabinet, arriving pre-wired rather than requiring separate transport, mounting and wiring of inverter components on site. The base unit is rated at 50kWh/100kWh and scales to 400kWh by paralleling up to four units, letting sites expand capacity without replacing hardware.
Compact design targets sites too small for custom-engineered battery systems
Measuring 1.90 meters tall with a 1.37 square-meter footprint and weighing 1,200 kg, the system is rated IP66 for the inverter and IP55 for the cabinet, operating between -30°C and 50°C for rooftop, outdoor and industrial deployment. It supports on-grid, off-grid and microgrid operation with islanding in under 20 milliseconds, black-start capability without grid or PV connection, and generator input up to 138 kVA.
TCL plans megawatt-scale expansion within 12 months
"X5 is the first milestone in a broader strategy to bring a complete commercial and industrial energy portfolio to Europe," said Steven Zhang, General Manager at TCL SunPower Global, adding that the company will expand from hybrid storage for small and medium businesses to megawatt-scale solutions over the next year.
Three-layer safety monitoring covers cabinet, battery pack and cell level
The system includes fire suppression, gas detection and arc-fault interruption, managed through TCL's EMS controller and a web/app interface. It is VPP-ready and complies with GDPR and ETSI EN303645 cybersecurity requirements for connected devices.
Spanish installer converts 2015 off-grid pumping system without expanding solar array
Electricidad EUFON used the X5 to retrofit battery storage onto an off-grid solar water-pumping system installed in 2015 without storage, serving a farm irrigation operation. Adolfo Bartolomé Redondo, Head of Renewable Energy at Electricidad EUFON, said surplus solar energy previously unused can now extend pumping beyond daylight hours, reducing dependence on diesel generation while integrating with EUFON's existing automation and control systems.
TCL X5 is available now across Europe with technical support for installation, commissioning and warranty.
