Turku, Finland – September 28, 2026 -- Teleste has introduced a new receiver for its Luminato 4X4 platform that converts live over-the-top (OTT) streams into formats compatible with conventional cable and IPTV distribution systems, becoming available in Q4 2026.
Receiver converts OTT streams for sites unable to use them directly
The adaptive bitrate (ABR) receiver supports live MPEG-DASH streams and can decrypt content protected by Widevine DRM. It converts these OTT services into MPEG transport streams for local IP multicast or QAM distribution, with IP and QAM outputs able to run simultaneously at the same installation.
Operators can extend TV service to hotels, hospitals and care facilities without network changes
The receiver lets operators reuse their existing OTT delivery infrastructure to supply conventional television lineups at destination sites, extending service over broadband connections to locations beyond an operator's own network. Teleste identifies hotels, hospitals, care facilities and multi-dwelling properties as target applications, alongside other sites requiring local cable or IP television distribution.
"Moving the incoming television feed to streaming does not mean every screen has to become a streaming device," said Julius Tikkanen, Vice President, Video Service Platforms at Teleste. He said Luminato manages that transition at the receiving site, allowing operators to develop their delivery network while continuing to offer television in the format each customer requires.
Dense QAM module supports up to 32 carriers per unit
For cable distribution, the dense QAM module supports up to 32 QAM carriers per module, with compatibility for DVB-C and ITU-T J.83 Annex B standards. The Luminato 4X4 chassis accommodates up to six hot-swappable modules and dual power supplies, providing capacity for expansion, modular servicing and power redundancy.
New and existing installations can both adopt the receiver
The receiver will be available for both new Luminato 4X4 systems and compatible existing installations. New deployments can be configured for ABR reception from the outset, while existing users can add the receiver while retaining applicable processing and output modules already in place.
