TerraPay's Xend Links African Wallets to Alipay+'s 150M Merchants

Dubai, UAE – September 12, 2026 -- TerraPay has partnered with Ant International's Alipay+ to let digital wallet users pay directly at more than 150 million merchants worldwide via QR code, starting with 15 African wallets connected to its Xend interoperability network.

Fifteen African wallets gain instant access to Alipay+'s global merchant base

In the initial rollout, wallet providers linked to Xend, TerraPay's wallet interoperability network, will allow their users to scan QR codes and pay at Alipay+ merchants across the network's footprint, spanning 220 destination markets and more than 10 national payment systems. The deal extends TerraPay's cross-border payment reach beyond account-to-account transfers into in-store, point-of-sale acceptance.

Alipay+ links 50-plus payment partners through a single gateway

Alipay+ already connects over 50 international payment partners to its merchant ecosystem. Through the new agreement, wallet operators onboarded via Xend gain that same reach through one integration, without building separate merchant acceptance networks market by market.

TerraPay CEO frames deal as step toward borderless wallet use

"The home wallet on your phone, that is from Kenya or Colombia or any country, should work the same way in Singapore or China or anywhere in the world, as easily as it does at home," said Ambar Sur, Founder and CEO of TerraPay. Edward Yue, General Manager of Alipay+ Global Power Center at Ant International, said the tie-up creates new pathways for cross-border commerce growth.

Pilot targets African wallet providers before wider expansion

The partnership is piloting with African wallet providers first, with TerraPay positioning the initial 15 wallets as a proof point for broader rollout across Latin America and the Middle East. TerraPay's Xend network already links to 3.7 billion wallets globally through a single connection, while the company's wider infrastructure reaches 7.5 billion-plus bank accounts across 156 countries.
