Milan – September 21, 2026 -- Tethis S.p.A. has completed the acquisition of the See.d software and engineering business unit from MACS S.r.l., gaining full control over intellectual property and engineering know-how behind its liquid biopsy platform. Alongside the transfer, Tethis signed a long-term manufacturing and supply agreement with Everex S.r.l., an Italian in-vitro diagnostic instrumentation maker, to handle production and future scale-up of the system.
Tethis consolidates full ownership of its liquid biopsy pre-analytical platform
See.d is the cornerstone of Tethis' liquid biopsy workflow, developed jointly with MACS to standardize pre-analytical blood processing. From a single blood sample, the platform generates plasma for cfDNA analysis and cytology slides preserving nucleated cells for downstream characterization, automating plasma separation, red blood cell lysis, and deposition onto Tethis' proprietary SmartBioSurface slides.
Everex takes on manufacturing role as clinical adoption expands
Everex, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Sesto Fiorentino, will support reliable manufacturing and future scale-up of See.d as demand grows. The company specializes in industrialization and regulated production for the IVD and biotechnology markets.
Platform already deployed across major research institutions
See.d instruments currently support research programs at Sheba Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, and ETH Zurich, where the platform contributes to circulating tumor cell characterization workflows. The technology previously underwent a clinical feasibility study at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan.
"By bringing the See.d technology and engineering expertise fully in-house, we gain greater control over a key component of our liquid biopsy workflow," said Holger Neecke, CEO of Tethis. Andrea Eugeni, CEO of MACS, said the transfer ensures continuity of development after years of collaboration between the two teams. Lorenzo Balli, CEO of Everex, said the company is positioned to support reliable manufacturing as adoption of the technology grows.
SmartBioSurface slides and the See.d instrument remain designated for research use only and are not approved for diagnostic procedures.
