Two suspected attacks on electrical substations in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia within a short timeframe have refocused attention on the security and resilience of technical infrastructure, according to the TÜV-Verband. The association frames the incidents as evidence of a shifting threat landscape affecting plants that require regulatory oversight.
TÜV-Verband cites 1.1 million inspections underpinning its annual safety report
Dr. Joachim Bühler, Managing Director of the TÜV-Verband, said around 1.1 million inspections form the basis of the association's annual Plant Safety Report, which tracks technical defects and safety trends across monitored facilities. "Millions of people rely every day on elevators, gas stations or pressure systems functioning reliably," Bühler said, describing plant safety as far from a technical niche issue.
Podcast format extends beyond data to address digitalization and emerging threat risks
The new podcast builds on the association's existing reports and studies, which the TÜV-Verband uses to identify where regulatory or political action is needed. The first season explores what determines the effectiveness of protective mechanisms in emergencies and how isolated vulnerabilities can be prevented from escalating into serious hazards.
Four episodes cover elevators, pressure systems and explosion-prone facilities
The season opener features Bühler discussing new threats and the growing importance of prevention for plant safety. Subsequent episodes address elevators, pressure systems, and explosion-hazard areas including gas stations, aircraft refueling installations and gas filling plants. André Siegl, TÜV-Verband referent for elevators, machinery and building technology, and Dr. Hermann Dinkler, referent for pressure and pipeline systems as well as fire and explosion protection, detail the protective mechanisms inspectors evaluate and the vulnerabilities they most frequently encounter.
