Velocys Launches AlphaCore 800, Doubling Fischer-Tropsch Reactor Capacity

Houston and Oxford – September 20, 2026 -- Velocys has released the AlphaCore 800, its highest-capacity microchannel Fischer-Tropsch reactor to date, capable of producing up to 800 barrels per day, or 30,000 tonnes per year, from a single unit.

New reactor doubles capacity of predecessor model

AlphaCore 800 doubles the throughput of the AlphaCore 400 and extends Velocys' reactor family range from roughly 50 to 800 barrels per day per unit, or 2 to 30 kt/a. The reactor targets larger sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and e-fuels projects, including plants aiming for approximately 100,000 tonnes per year and above.

Fewer reactors cut equipment needs and unit costs

An FT plant requiring approximately 1,600 barrels per day (60 kt/a) of FT liquids could be configured with just two AlphaCore 800 reactors, compared with eight AlphaCore 200 units for the same output. That represents a 75% reduction in total reactor count while maintaining identical FT liquids capacity, according to Velocys.

CEO cites customer demand for simplified large-scale configurations

"Customers are asking us to bring our microchannel FT technology into larger projects with simpler configurations," said Matthew Viergutz, CEO of Velocys. "As SAF projects move toward 100,000 tonnes per year and beyond, we are increasing capacity per reactor so developers can configure larger FT plants with fewer units while building on the technology platform and operating experience of Velocys."

Reactor portfolio now spans four throughput tiers

AlphaCore 800 joins the AlphaCore 50, 200 and 400 models in Velocys' product range, all built on the same core microchannel technology and applicable across multiple project scales and syngas pathways.
