SHERIDAN, WYOMING – October 22, 2025 – Montreal-based Vortex Aquatic Structures International is celebrating its 30th anniversary, underscoring three decades of leadership in designing and manufacturing aquatic play environments for municipalities, resorts, and entertainment destinations worldwide. Known for pioneering the original Splashpad®, the company has grown into a global powerhouse with more than 12,000 installations across 50 countries.
Expanding from Local Start-Up to Global Industry Leader
Founded in 1995 with a mission to reimagine underused public spaces, Vortex has evolved into a multinational enterprise with headquarters in Montreal and regional offices in the U.S., Spain, and the Netherlands. Employing nearly 250 people, the company continues to expand its global footprint through strategic acquisitions and new manufacturing capacity.
In 2024, Vortex acquired Dutch water play specialist Watergames & More, effectively doubling its European revenues within a year. Building on this success, the company inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Plattsburgh, New York, in 2025, with full-scale production slated for 2026. These moves position Vortex to meet growing international demand while providing localized production and service support.
“For the first 25 years, we focused exclusively on exporting from Canada. Today, we are evolving into a truly multinational company by establishing local presences in strategic regions such as Europe and the United States,” said Stephen Hamelin, Founder and CEO of Vortex.
Sustainability and Smart Water Management Drive Design Philosophy
At the heart of Vortex’s product innovation lies a deep commitment to sustainability and responsible water use. The company’s advanced water-control systems are engineered to optimize consumption while ensuring compliance with local environmental regulations. Many installations now recycle 100% of the water used, while others repurpose it for irrigation or groundwater replenishment.
These practices align with the growing global movement toward sustainable urban design, helping cities combat heat islands, reduce water waste, and promote community well-being. Through its integrated ESG framework, Vortex sets a benchmark for environmentally conscious recreation infrastructure.
Health and Community Benefits Beyond Play
The company’s installations go beyond recreation—they act as social and health enablers. Vortex collaborates with municipalities to create inclusive aquatic environments that encourage physical activity, social interaction, and cognitive development for children. Its long-standing partnership with the Health and Play Consortium, founded in collaboration with Dr. Michael Suk of Geisinger Health System, underscores the connection between play and public health outcomes.
As Dr. Suk’s research emphasizes, accessible play environments are not just amenities—they are public health assets that help foster stronger, more resilient communities.
Recognition and Collaboration Across Industries
Vortex’s 30th-anniversary event in Pointe-Claire drew notable guests including Tim Thomas, Mayor of Pointe-Claire; Julie White, President of Quebec Manufacturers and Exporters (MEQ); and Paul Lamontagne, Managing Director of QG100. Their attendance highlighted Vortex’s dual role as a local manufacturing success story and a global innovator driving economic growth and sustainability leadership within Quebec’s industrial ecosystem.
Showcasing Next-Generation Play Solutions at Aquanale 2025
Vortex will showcase its latest water play technologies—including its award-winning Dream Tunnel™ and Water Journey™ series—at Aquanale 2025 in Cologne (Hall 8.1, Booth C37). The company plans to highlight how its next-generation designs balance creativity, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for Connected, Resilient Communities
“Celebrating 30 years is a proud milestone for Vortex,” Hamelin said. “It is a tribute to the power of innovation, determination, and people. What began as an opportunity to bring joy to underused parks with our Splashpad® has grown into a global movement that is transforming how communities connect, play, and thrive in public spaces. Looking ahead, we will continue to create inclusive aquatic experiences that inspire wonder, foster connections, and enrich public life for generations to come.”
Vortex’s next phase of growth will focus on deepening its European presence and exploring strategic expansion into emerging markets, including the Middle East, as municipalities and developers worldwide prioritize sustainable recreation infrastructure.
