XGRIDS Pushes 3D Gaussian Splatting Into Live Broadcast Pipelines at IBC 2026

Amsterdam – September 18, 2026 -- Spatial intelligence firm XGRIDS is demonstrating a live pipeline that converts physical film sets into navigable 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) environments inside Unreal Engine at IBC 2026, RAI Amsterdam, cutting the reconstruction time traditionally required for virtual production.

XGRIDS Moves Spatial Scans Directly Into Unreal Engine for Virtual Production

Using spatial scanners such as Lixel K2 and spatial cameras including PortalCam, XGRIDS captures site data and processes it locally through its Lixel CyberColor (LCC) software. The resulting 3DGS environments are imported into Unreal Engine via the XGRIDS LCC Plugin for UE, allowing production teams to use a photorealistic, navigable scene for camera blocking, XR and in-camera visual effects (ICVFX) rather than a single-use visualization.

CM Fey Shows Real Production Pipeline Integration at IBC Session

XGRIDS Product Manager CM Fey presented the workflow to media and technology professionals from Europe and North America, framing captured locations as reusable digital production assets compatible with platforms including Pixotope, Aximmetry, Disguise and nDisplay. Filmmaker and VFX supervisor Amir Ovadia Steklov followed with a session on capturing a spaceship film set using PortalCam and integrating the 3DGS output into a cinematic VFX pipeline.

PortalCam Wins Four Categories at 2026 NAB Show Product of the Year Awards

The hardware underpinning the workflow has already gained industry recognition, with PortalCam taking four award categories at the 2026 NAB Show. South Korea's broadcaster SBS has adopted the same 3DGS and XR approach for live news production, integrating it through the LCC Plugin for Unreal Engine and Pixotope.

LCC Scan Brings On-Device 3DGS Capture to iPhone

XGRIDS also showcased LCC Scan at IBC, enabling local, on-device 3DGS creation directly on iPhone for capturing people, objects and spaces as interactive 3D content, extending spatial capture beyond dedicated hardware.
