NEW YORK – October 29, 2026 -- Zocdoc said AI agent traffic on its platform has grown nearly 30x since July, and it is opening its healthcare access infrastructure to agents that find providers, verify insurance and book confirmed appointments on patients' behalf.
Agent traffic has doubled roughly every 10 days since early September, according to the company. Zocdoc is also adding the AI agent Instinct as a partner, giving it direct access to Zocdoc's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server.
Zocdoc welcomes agents while much of the web restricts them
Zocdoc is registering agents rather than blocking, restricting or charging them, as much of the internet does. CEO Oliver Kharraz said "most of the internet is treating AI agents like intruders." He argued that errors in healthcare, such as referrals to nonexistent doctors, unavailable slots or out-of-network providers, fall on patients.
Agents can connect through an MCP server, a REST API, llms.txt agent guidance or deep links.
Instinct joins a Care Access Network that already includes Google Gemini and Amazon Health AI
Through the partnership, Instinct can find vetted providers, verify insurance and book appointments that sync directly into providers' calendars. Instinct Chief Business Officer Ben Schwerin said healthcare carries higher stakes than ordering groceries or booking travel, and that the integration lets users secure an appointment by sending a text.
Instinct joins Zocdoc's Care Access Network, which also includes Google Gemini, Amazon Health AI, Yelp, Healthgrades, Blue Shield of California and search engines.
Zocdoc cites 200,000+ verified providers and 10,000+ insurance plans as its edge
Zocdoc argues that agents face fragmented provider data, outdated directories, inaccurate insurance information, unverified reviews and fraudulent websites. Its counter is scale built over nearly two decades:
- Reliable booking for more than 20 million patients
- 175+ scheduling integrations
- 10,000+ insurance plans
- 200,000+ verified providers
- 250,000 appointments available within the next 24 hours
The typical appointment takes place within 24 to 72 hours of booking, which Zocdoc says is 10x faster than the national average wait to see a doctor.
Two-way promise sets consent and data rules for agents
Zocdoc commits to welcoming agents that register and identify themselves. In return, agents must obtain explicit patient consent before booking and protect patient and provider data.
The move follows Zocdoc's shift from a booking marketplace to infrastructure that powers access wherever patients search, including AI platforms, online search, insurance directories and providers' websites.
