Singapore – – September 12, 2026 -- The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has catalysed US$641 million in third-party and impact-investor funding commitments since 2019, according to its newly released 2025 Progress Report covering the first year of Strategy 2030 implementation.
Cumulative waste reduction reaches 378,147 tonnes since 2019
The organisation reduced 138,162 tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste and valorised 165,317 tonnes in 2025 alone, pushing cumulative totals to 378,147 tonnes reduced and 418,529 tonnes captured for value since inception. Education and behaviour-change programs have reached over 1.5 million people, and the Alliance engaged 559 organisations in 2025 to finance, develop, and implement projects.
Strategy 2030 shifts focus from standalone projects to integrated country programs
The Alliance is now concentrating resources on larger-scale Country and Thematic Programs rather than smaller, isolated initiatives, targeting countries positioned to climb the recycling maturity curve. Active Country Programs now operate in Brazil, Saudi Arabia (GCC), India, Indonesia, and South Africa.
Indonesia pilot draws up to $40 million commitment for multi-city rollout
In Malang Regency, East Java, the Alliance launched an integrated waste management pilot combining source segregation, improved collection and sorting, and stronger recycler links, developed under the Indonesian government's Solid Waste Management for Sustainable Urban Development project with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The Alliance has committed up to US$40 million to extend the Malang model across additional SWM-SUD cities and regencies.
India facility hits 75% capacity, targets 300 tonnes daily processing
An Alliance-financed municipal waste processing facility in Mathura-Vrindavan, built with local municipal authorities, is running at 75% capacity and is expected to process up to 300 tonnes of waste per day while diverting 80% of the city's waste from landfill.
Phoenix pilot targets flexible plastics from small commercial generators
Under its Thematic Program addressing flexible plastics, the Alliance partnered with RME Defeats Waste in Phoenix, Arizona, to introduce on-site baling and on-demand collection for manufacturers and hospitals whose material volumes were previously too small for economically viable traditional collection. The Alliance also commissioned a study mapping supply, demand, and end-market opportunities for recycled flexible plastics across the United States.
Lombard Odier-managed circularity fund reaches final close in summer 2026
The Plastic Circularity Strategy, managed by Lombard Odier Investment Managers and seeded by the Alliance through initial funding and technical advice, closed in summer 2026 and continues deploying growth equity into circularity-focused companies. Portfolio recipients include Spain's Fych Technologies, which recycles complex multilayer plastics through a patented process, and Switzerland's Bloom Biorenewables, which converts non-edible biomass into bio-based chemicals and materials.
