Singapore – September 12, 2026 -- The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has valorized 418,529 tonnes of plastic waste and reduced unmanaged plastic waste by 378,147 tonnes since 2019, according to its 2025 progress report, Strategy in Action, released to mark the first year of its 2030 Strategy implementation.
In 2025 alone, the nonprofit cut unmanaged plastic waste by 138,162 tonnes and valorized 165,317 tonnes. Since inception, it has mobilized $641 million in funding commitments from third parties and impact investors, engaged 559 organizations in 2025 to fund and execute projects, and reached more than 1.5 million people through education and behavior-change initiatives.
Indonesia pilot draws up to $40 million for citywide waste system rollout
The Alliance is scaling integrated waste management across Indonesia under the government-led SWM-SUD program, backed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. A 2025 pilot in Malang Regency, East Java, combined source segregation, improved collection and sorting, and stronger links to local recyclers. The Alliance has committed up to $40 million to replicate the Malang model across other SWM-SUD cities and regencies.
Mathura-Vrindavan facility in India processes up to 300 tonnes of waste daily
A municipal waste facility financed by the Alliance and developed with local authorities in Mathura-Vrindavan is now running at 75% capacity, processing up to 300 tonnes of waste per day and diverting 80% of the city's waste from landfill.
Phoenix pilot targets flexible plastics from low-volume commercial generators
Through its thematic Flexibles program in Europe and North America, the Alliance is testing a market-driven collection model in Phoenix, Arizona, with RME Defeats Waste. The initiative offers on-site baling and on-demand pickup for small waste producers—including manufacturers and hospitals—whose volumes have historically been too low for cost-effective traditional collection. The Alliance also commissioned a study of the U.S. flexible plastics sector to map supply, demand and end-market opportunities for recycled flexible plastics.
Lombard Odier-managed fund closes, backing Fych Technologies and Bloom Biorenewables
The Plastic Circularity strategy, managed by Lombard Odier Investment Managers and seeded with startup funding and technical advice from the Alliance, held its final close in summer 2026. The fund continues deploying growth capital into circularity ventures, including Spain's Fych Technologies, which holds a patented process for recycling complex multilayer plastics, and Switzerland's Bloom Biorenewables, which converts non-edible biomass into bio-based chemicals and materials.
National programs are also active in Brazil, the GCC (Saudi Arabia) and South Africa, focused on strengthening collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure while building demand for recycled materials.
