Singapore – September 12, 2026 -- The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) has mobilized $641 million in financing commitments from third parties and impact investors since 2019, according to its 2025 Progress Report released today marking the first year of its Strategy 2030 rollout.
Alliance diverts 138,162 tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste in 2025 alone
The organization reduced 138,162 tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste and valorized 165,317 tonnes during 2025, bringing cumulative totals since 2019 to 378,147 tonnes reduced and 418,529 tonnes recovered for value. AEPW worked with 559 organizations last year to finance, develop and deploy its projects, while its education and behavior-change initiatives have reached more than 1.5 million people since inception.
National programs target five priority markets including India, Indonesia and Brazil
AEPW currently runs country programs in Brazil, the Gulf Cooperation Council (Saudi Arabia), India, Indonesia and South Africa, aimed at strengthening collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure while building demand for recycled materials. In Indonesia, the Alliance launched an integrated waste management pilot in Malang Regency, East Java, under the government's Solid Waste Management for Sustainable Urban Development (SWM-SUD) project with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. AEPW has committed up to $40 million to replicate the Malang model across additional SWM-SUD cities and regencies.
In India, a municipal waste processing plant financed by the Alliance in Mathura-Vrindavan is now operating at 75% capacity, with a target throughput of 300 tonnes of waste per day that would divert 80% of the city's waste from landfills.
Phoenix pilot targets flexible plastics from small commercial generators
Under its thematic Flexible Waste Programme covering Europe and North America, AEPW is testing a market-driven collection model in Phoenix, Arizona, with partner RME Defeats Waste. The project provides on-site baling and on-demand pickup for small generators such as manufacturers and hospitals whose volumes are too low for conventional collection economics. The Alliance has also commissioned a study of the U.S. flexible plastics system to map supply, demand and end-market opportunities for recycled flexible plastics.
Lombard Odier-managed fund closes after seeding circular plastics startups
The Plastic Circularity Strategy, managed by Lombard Odier Investment Managers and seeded by AEPW through initial funding and technical advisory support, closed its fundraising round in summer 2026. The fund continues deploying growth capital into circularity ventures including Spain's Fych Technologies, which recycles complex multilayer plastics, and Switzerland's Bloom Biorenewables, which converts non-edible biomass into bio-based chemicals and materials.
AEPW President and CEO Jacob Duer said 2025 served as a foundational year for the Strategy 2030, with early results emerging in the highest-need markets even as scaling durable, system-wide impact will require sustained partnerships and investment in the years ahead.
