New York – September 30, 2026 -- Researchers at NYU Langone Health have built an artificial intelligence system that tracks the daily case exposure of radiology residents and flags missing pathologies with more than 90 percent accuracy, according to a study published online in Academic Radiology.

AI system pinpoints training gaps that traditional case logs miss

The tool monitors which conditions residents encounter during clinical rotations and automatically identifies underexposed pathologies, then assigns supplemental teaching cases to close the gap. Study author Vinay Prabhu, an associate professor in NYU Grossman School of Medicine's Department of Radiology, said residents seeing 30 cases in a day typically encounter 29 routine exams and only one uncommon condition, leaving gaps in exposure to rarer diseases they will face throughout their careers.

Mehta brings a clinical trials portfolio built at two prior academic centers

Mehta joins from Weill Cornell Medicine, where she established an Upper GI Working Group to advance clinical and research collaboration. She previously helped build the Upper GI Malignancies Program at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, developing a clinical trials portfolio that gave patients access to new treatment options.

Berry, PhD, vice chair of physics and dosimetry in its Department of Radiation Oncology, recruiting a 20-year veteran of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to lead treatment-planning quality and safety programs.

Berry moves from a regional physicist role overseeing multi-site radiation oncology operations

Before joining NYU Langone, Berry served as regional lead physicist and associate attending physicist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, managing clinical physics operations across outpatient sites in Westchester County, New York, and Bergen County, New Jersey. His duties included supervising faculty physicists, staff physicists and dosimetrists, regulatory readiness, accreditation activities, budget oversight, linear accelerator commissioning and standardizing radiation oncology practice across multiple locations.

New York City – September 15, 2026 -- Mice fed 30 percent fewer calories than their normal intake showed reduced levels of DNA mutations across multiple tissues, according to a study published September 9 in Cell by researchers at NYU Langone Health and University Hospitals Cleveland.

Researchers Measure Genome-Wide Mutation Reduction for the First Time

The study is the first to quantify how caloric restriction affects mutation patterns across a large portion of the genome, rather than in single genes as prior research had done. Using advanced DNA sequencing technology, the team tracked both substitution mutations, where one DNA letter replaces another, and insertion-deletion mutations, where DNA letters are added or removed.

The research was conducted in collaboration with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health.

Frankle succeeds Marmar after 17-year tenure

Dr. Frankle takes over from Charles R. Marmar, MD, who completed 17 years as chair and will continue as director of the Center for Precision Psychiatry within NYU Grossman School of Medicine's faculty. Frankle previously served as vice chair of the department and chief of psychiatry service at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and holds the title of professor of psychiatry.
