DB HiTek Completes Reliability Qualification for 8-Inch 1,200V SiC MOSFET Process

Seoul – September 12, 2026 -- DB HiTek has completed reliability qualification for its 1,200V silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET manufacturing process on 8-inch (200mm) wafers, establishing what the company calls the world's first complete 8-inch SiC foundry process. Mass production is scheduled for 2027.

The South Korean foundry, which specializes exclusively in 8-inch wafer production, has set up an end-to-end service covering design, fabrication, electrical characterization, and reliability qualification for high-power SiC MOSFETs. Most SiC production today runs on 6-inch wafers, but major chipmakers are shifting toward 8-inch substrates to cut per-unit costs and boost manufacturing efficiency, a transition DB HiTek is positioning itself to capture early.

Second-generation PDK hits 2.5 mΩ·cm2 on-resistance and clears reliability testing

DB HiTek is supplying customers with first- and second-generation process design kits (PDKs) for its proprietary 1,200V SiC MOSFET technology. The second-generation process achieves a specific on-resistance (Rsp) of 2.5 mΩ·cm2 or lower and a threshold voltage of 3V or higher at an 18V gate-on voltage, and has passed reliability qualification testing.

Third-generation PDK targets tighter performance specs, launch set for November

A third-generation process now under qualification is designed to lower Rsp to 2.3 mΩ·cm2 or below at the same 18V gate-on voltage while achieving a short-circuit withstand time of at least 2.5 microseconds within the short-circuit safe operating area. DB HiTek plans to release the third-generation PDK to customers once qualification concludes, targeting November.

PDK access could cut customer development timelines by more than a year

By providing pre-validated design kits, DB HiTek says customers can reduce early-stage development resources, speed up prototype fabrication, and shorten overall product development timelines by more than one year. The company plans to grant long-standing customers process access in the third quarter of this year, before opening the service to all clients starting the second quarter of 2027.

A DB HiTek representative said the completed reliability qualification confirms the company has secured the core process technology and manufacturing foundation needed to offer the first 8-inch SiC foundry service globally, and that volume production preparations for 2027 will continue as the company works to strengthen its position in the power semiconductor foundry market.
