Atlanta – September 21, 2026 -- Georgia Power is donating $10,000 to launch "Georgia in Color," a fundraising initiative by Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites to place free EnChroma color-accessibility glasses across all Georgia State Parks.
Georgia Power builds on prior $25,000 commitment to accessibility program
The new donation follows a $25,000 gift the utility made at the end of 2025 to help Friends develop the color-accessibility program. EnChroma glasses use specialized optical filters to enhance color contrast for visitors with red-green color vision deficiency, a condition that can make fall foliage, spring wildflowers and scenic landscapes appear less distinct. Georgia Power has also previously partnered with the Aimee Copeland Foundation to place all-terrain Trackchairs in state parks for visitor use.
Hundreds of volunteers mobilize for Your State Parks Day on September 26
Georgia Power expects hundreds of volunteers to participate Saturday, September 26, in Your State Parks Day, an annual cleanup and beautification event hosted by Friends in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. Registration and event details by local park are available through the Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites website, which also invites the public to volunteer, donate, or share park memories.
Utility executive frames investment as community and tourism support
"Georgia's state parks are a tremendous natural resource and asset for our state, driving travel and tourism for local communities and hosting millions of visitors each year," said Trey Kilpatrick, senior vice president of External Affairs at Georgia Power. Damon Kirkpatrick, president and CEO of Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, said the investment and volunteer effort reflect a commitment to making the parks more accessible.
Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites operates more than 50 local chapters statewide and coordinates thousands of volunteer hours annually in support of individual park projects and preservation programs. Georgia Power serves 2.8 million customers across all but four of Georgia's 159 counties.
