Peak Nano Wins Two US Patents for High-Temp Capacitor Films

Valley View, Ohio – October 12, 2026 -- Peak Nano has secured two U.S. patents for dielectric capacitor films that it says deliver four times the energy density of current biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film and hold full capacity up to 135°C, versus the 85°C limit of industry-standard BOPP.

Patent US12427754B2 targets smaller capacitor banks with a multilayered HDC film

The first patent covers Peak Nano's corona-treated multilayered High Dielectric Constant (HDC) film. Its surface modifications are optimized for metallization, tighter winding and integration in wound metallized capacitors.

The company says the nanolayer architecture delivers four times higher energy density and greater stability than state-of-the-art BOPP. Engineers can design capacitor banks up to two times smaller, cutting cost and system complexity.

Patent US12119180B2 cuts dissipation factor by 50% and extends capacitor life up to fivefold

The second patent protects the Low Dissipation Factor (LDF) film, an ultra-low-loss, high-temperature capacitor film. Its dissipation factor is 50% lower than traditional BOPP, which limits self-heating and thermal stress. Peak Nano says capacitor lifecycles extend by up to five times.

The film keeps full energy capacity up to 135°C without derating. The company says this reduces cooling infrastructure and capacitor redundancy in power-intensive settings such as fusion reactors, data centers and defense systems.

Chief Science Officer Dr. Michael Ponting said third-party validation underpins the claims, describing the patents as a generational step in capacitor film design.

Ohio plant is planned as the first U.S. polymer capacitor film facility

Peak Nano is advancing the technology in what it describes as the first domestic facility for polymer capacitor film production. The Ohio plant will make both its patented high-temperature NanoplexTM films and BOPP film, which is currently available only from overseas suppliers. Peak Nano says it will become the nation's sole source of domestically manufactured BOPP.

Target applications include the power grid, transportation, pulsed power, defense and emerging fusion systems. Commercialization is scheduled for early 2026.

Peak Nano cites China's grid patent lead as it builds a licensing pipeline

The source notes that China files more grid-technology patents than any other country. Peak Nano holds more than 20 global patents and plans to use the expanded portfolio to pursue licensing and co-development deals. It is targeting OEMs, system integrators and public-sector buyers who want to pilot and validate U.S.-made alternatives.
