Rockwell Launches CompactLogix 5390 With 43% Smaller Footprint

Milwaukee – October 13, 2026 -- Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK) has launched the CompactLogix 5390 controller, a unit with a footprint 43% smaller than the CompactLogix 5380 and security capabilities aligned to IEC 62443-4-2. The controller is the newest addition to the company's Integrated Architecture family and targets machine builders and OEMs.

CompactLogix 5390 builds in cybersecurity aligned to IEC 62443-4-2 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act

The controller combines built-in cybersecurity, integrated safety and higher performance on one control platform. Rockwell says its security capabilities are aligned to IEC 62443-4-2 and that the unit is ready for the EU Cyber Resilience Act. The aim is to let machine builders address evolving global requirements without adding complexity to machine architecture.

Smaller footprint and PointMax I/O support reduce panel space and modularize designs

The 43% size reduction against the CompactLogix 5380 cuts panel space requirements. Rockwell says it also helps standardize designs across machine families. Support for local PointMax I/O enables more modular architectures.

Siva Iyyamperumal, senior product manager at Rockwell Automation, said the controller brings these capabilities together in a single platform to help customers simplify machine design and support regulatory readiness.

Controller integrates with Kinetix, PowerFlex, Stratix and FactoryTalk Design Studio

The CompactLogix 5390 expands Rockwell's compact performance offering, which covers control, I/O, visualization, motion, safety and information technologies. It integrates with PointMax I/O, Kinetix motion solutions, PowerFlex drives, Stratix networking technologies, FactoryTalk Design Studio software and other visualization solutions.

Rockwell says the approach simplifies engineering workflows, reduces commissioning risk and gives a scalable path from standalone machines to complex production systems. Target users are OEMs, systems integrators and end users building more complex machines, process skids and production systems.
