Beachwood, Ohio – September 25, 2026 -- Saber Healthcare Group has disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which an outside party encrypted a portion of its corporate network files on July 27, 2026, potentially exposing personal and medical information tied to an undisclosed number of individuals.
Attacker encrypted files causing service outage on July 27, 2026
Saber detected a service outage affecting internal and external computer systems on that date. The company secured and isolated its systems and launched an investigation with outside cybersecurity experts, who confirmed an unauthorized party had accessed the corporate network and encrypted a small portion of files, triggering the outage.
Electronic medical record system hosted by third party remained unaffected
Saber's electronic medical record system, hosted and maintained by a separate outside provider, was not compromised. Facilities accessed that system via the web, and the company found no evidence the medical record database was accessed, modified, or copied. Saber restored inaccessible files within 24 to 48 hours using unaffected backup copies, with no data loss.
Exposed data may include Social Security numbers and financial account details
A review completed August 19, 2026 found that affected files, varying by individual, may contain names alongside dates of birth, driver's license or state ID numbers, health insurance information, medical information, financial account details, passport numbers, and Social Security numbers. Saber began mailing individual notifications following the review and is offering free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
Company implements additional safeguards, reports no further unauthorized activity
Saber engaged third-party specialists throughout the response and has since implemented additional security measures. The company reports no ongoing unauthorized activity detected since these measures were put in place.
